Anti Inflammation Diet & Simple Salmon Recipe using YL essential oils

I recently was diagnosed with an obnoxious ailment called costochondritis.  After a visit to the ER I was diagnosed with this particularly odd new to me condition.

If you haven’t heard of it I will brief you in a few bullet points some fun facts about it.

  • Feels exactly like a heart attack
  • Chest crushingly painful
  • Can be caused from emotional stress (most likely my problem)
  • Or too much physical exertion (also a runner up to the root of the problem)
  • It is in inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone
  • The popping sensation I feel across my chest isn’t in fact a good thing.
  • It’s probably one of the most painful things I’ve experienced, and I’ve birthed two children

Anyways, I read what I could about it.  Chatted with my physician and was informed about the Mediterranean Diet.  Now I’m not a big fan of diets or fad diets.  I think most the time they do more harm then good however I am intrigued with this particular diet because it is supposed to reduce inflammation.  And changing my diet a bit is definitely worth it if I can rid myself of the feeling of a heart attack.

I’ve been eating a lot of fish.  And surprisingly I’m not sick of it yet.

I thought I’d share my hubbies creation using Essential Oils to cook seriously the best Salmon I’ve ever tasted.  Before this recipe I would dry heave at the sight of Salmon.

If you are in the market for some Basil Vitality Oil you can purchase some here.

Or you can always opt to use fresh Basil of course.

Basil & Lemon Salmon Filet

2 cloves of garlic

12 Tbsp Light Virgin Olive Oil

2 drops Basil Vitality Oil (mixed with 2 tsps water)

2 tsp salt

2 tsp black pepper

2 Tbsp lemon juice (or you can substitute with 2 drops Lemon Vitality Oil mixed with 2 tsp water)

16 oz Salmon Filet

  1.  Mix Garlic, Oil, Basil, Salt, Pepper, and Lemon together in a bowl.
  2. Place salmon in light greased baking dish.
  3. Smother, and I mean smother Salmon with garlic and basil mixture.
  4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  5. Cover the salmon in the glass pan with foil and cook for 35-45 minutes.

It’s a super simple recipe.  Nothing to crazy, but it is unbelievably good.  We’ve also substituted the olive oil for coconut oil and it’s been just as tasty.

Have you had luck with chronic inflammation and dietary changes?

I know with my bladder disease I find that diet plays a very large role in my health and how I feel.

Hope you enjoy the recipe!

Essential Oils a Fad? Or necessity?

It seems that essential oils are the latest fad right?

Everywhere you turn someone is pushing their personal business.

I’ve taken a break from pretty much everything in my life.  I’ve had life burnout so bad.

In my time away from social media, writing, social gatherings I’ve been testing out Essential Oils and really trying to see are they truly worth the money or is this another scheme to get me to spend money.

I personally use the brands Young Living and Doterra.

Over the past 6 months I’ve come to the realization some of them do truly work, and some of the products were in fact a waste of money.

It all depends on personal preference, what exactly you are hoping to gain from using Essential Oils in your life.

I have found that there are oils that help treat colds, viruses, minor aches and pains.  Saving me on a trip to the Doctor’s office.  Sometimes in conjunction with Western medicine as well.

I’ve found I enjoy mixing and matching different essential oils to find scents that are pleasing to me.

I don’t always notice a difference, but sometimes the sweet aroma is enough to kick my bad mood.

I’ve been ingesting Copaiba regularly and often to help fight off my immune disorder.  This for sure is not a cure, but it has most definitely helped my immune system.

I love using Myrhh and Frankincense in my moisturizer to combat acne and wrinkles.

Instead of rushing to the Doctor for an antibiotic I have found that ingesting Oregano pills for 5 days will kick a sinus infection just as quickly without the side effects of an antibiotics.

Cooking with essential oils has become an enjoyable past time of mine as well.  A drop of Lemon Essential Oil will work just as nicely as a fresh lemon replacement.

So without begging and pleading for you to give Essential Oils a try I’m softly suggesting maybe you look into it.

Maybe it’s time our medicine cabinets reverted back to the olden days.  Ditch the cough suppressants for an Essential Oil instead.  Substitute a household cleaner for an all natural cleaner using Essential Oils.

There are so many different ways to use and enjoy Essential Oils.  It isn’t necessarily some scheme to take all your money.  As much as I love bleach and some modern medicine I find that I too really enjoy my natural medicine cabinet for everyday ailments.

You may be wondering why Young Living, and to be honest I don’t have an answer other than I have tried multiple brands of Essential Oils and have found I love Young Living the most.  It’s personal preference, and it happens to be the brand that I choose.

Full Disclosure:  I am not a Doctor, or an expert in Essential Oils.  I’m a mama, pretty basic, I do my research before using each and every essential oil and choose them for me and my family based on my own research and I strongly suggest you do the same.

15 minute Peach & Yellow Tomato Salsa

I love using things from the garden. I love that we have peach trees in our neighborhood. We also have a few trees in our yard but they aren’t producing much this year. (Hopefully the magic chicken poop will get things growing for next year)

Anyways. I went out this morning to probably 50 ripe tomatoes. I also have about 80 peaches from my neighbors trees he so kindly let us take.

So I decided why not try out some peach salsa.

I’m honestly not the type of cook that measures things out perfectly. I don’t really count either just go by sight but for this in order to share I decided to write as I went.

Peach Tomato Salsa

1 1/2 cups small yellow tomatoes (you could use red, yellow is just what I had ready to pick this morning)

6 peaches peeled.

6 garlic cloves

1/2 yellow onion (mine was really large)

2 drops Young Living Lemon Essential Oil

2 TBSP honey

1-2 leaves lemon balm

I didn’t have any cilantro but I’d imagine that adds a little kick I just can’t stand the taste.

1/2 cup jalapeños (optional)

Directions

First make sure to peel the peaches. I chose to boil them first.

Once the water is boiling add in the peaches for 30 seconds

Then immediately place them in an ice bath.

Then the skins should come right off without a knife.

I still used a knife so somewhere I must have messed up. The skins came of easy but not without a knife to get them started.

Then cut up each item small enough to fit into the food processor.

My food processor is tiny. So I had to do it this way.

I added all items into the bowl once they were finished getting chopped. Added two drops of Young Living Lemon Essential Oil and mixed gently with a wooden spoon.

I had the kids helping so they turned out a tad more puréed than I had planned but that is life of a mama.

Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

I hope you enjoy!

Autism & Sleep

Most parents I know have had their child go through phases with sleep struggles.

But not to the extent for us Autism parents.

Sleep is elusive.  My son didn’t start sleeping regularly through the night until he hit five and a half.  Even still we have nights with serious struggles.

It was a source of my depression for quite some time.

I was exhausted.  I mean hadn’t really slept well in 5.5 years exhausted.

Lack of sleep causes behavioral struggles in not only the kids but also in the parents as well.

I’d be lying if I said my kids slept perfectly, but I actually sleep more nights than not now, which is the greatest blessing.

It’s crazy how lack of sleep can truly start destroying your body.  I had shingles at 28 years old.  Then again at 30.  My immune system was so weak and depleted from lack of sleep, but we had tried everything.

To be honest I think as EBE has grown he has started to sleep better.  But two things that are an absolute must each night in order for us to get sleep are Tired Teddies and diffusing my beloved sleep potion.

Sleep Potion

10 drops copaiba essential oils

copaiba.jpg

5 drops lavender

7 drops cedarwood

Tired Teddies are amazing.  I know some parents disagree with the use of a sleep aid, but after years and years of some truly insane nights I gave in and decided to give Tired Teddies a go.

tired teddies

I absolutely love them.  And as parents we regularly take them for sleep as well.  (Just FYI I have no affiliation with the makers of Tired Teddies this is a genuine post from my own personal experiences)

I love that they don’t give you that sleeping pill hangover.

They have a small dose of melatonin as well as chamomile.  They don’t cause night terrors whereas we had that issue with other brands of melatonin.

I truly would suggest these to anyone struggling with sleep.  A gentle sleep aid by a company that I support.

I know having anxiety my sleep can get pretty odd on it’s own.  These are just two things out of an entire tool box we use to combat sleep issues associated with Autism and anxiety.

If you are having trouble sleeping maybe you would find some solace in this post from a previously exhausted mama.

From our fields to your family

Let me share with you how I became a Young Living Essential Oils Distributor.

I’ve been a closet oiler for years.

Not sure if that’s even a term.

I’ve used oils since my first son was born.  My generous mother in law and mom have always both provided me with the oils I need for each stage of my life.  From both Doterra and Young Living.  I’ve used oils for serious baby constipation, I’ve used oils for anxiety and depression.  I make a special potion for the animals when they get injured.  The list of benefits we see daily by using Young Living Essential Oils is pretty significant.

My mama decided to gift me with signing me up as a distributor for Young Living.  You see I actually use both Young Living and Doterra oils.  I know the horror!

But I truly believe in oils and so as long as the oils are pure I won’t discriminate.

I however just adore so much about Young Living.  When I received my starter kit in the mail I was beyond thrilled.

I’ll be completely transparent.  The idea of making a little side money is nice.  I love staying home with my kids but it’s nice to get a little extra money here and there selling something I truly believe in.  Not to mention by becoming a distributor you are able to use the Young Living Essential Oils and products at a much more affordable price.

Both my kids fall onto the Autism spectrum.  We face some sensory challenges on a day to day basis.  I will never claim to say that essential oils cure behaviors associated with the spectrum.  But I will say combined with diet and exercise I do notice a lot of positive changes.

Not to mention how clean and healthy my house feels.  I ditched the chemical cleaners once I had kids  and started making my own using essential oils and other household products.

I’m not really good at selling products though.  I never want to be that friend blowing up your feed with more obnoxious sales posts.  But I do hope as I embark on this journey with Young Living that I’m able to encourage others that there is healing in oils and hopefully they fall in love with Young Living like I did.

Stick around for different potions and ideas we cook up using Young Living Essential Oils on our homestead.
